Week 23: May 31–June 6
Good morning, here’s how the last week shaped up!
Firstly, the fallout from the fake dark chocolate and weight loss article is still coming down. Articles like this one and this one are still talking about the media scam. Chocolate itself was unavailable for comment.
Lenovo built a 3D printer that uses chocolate. Valentine’s Day will never be the same.
Cadbury’s is downsizing their chocolate bars. A row is being removed from their Family Size block: which was 220g and will now be 200g. Rising worldwide cocoa prices give the perfect cover. You’ll note that the picture has already been swapped. Very clever, Chocolate Giant…
Ghana is replacing 33% of their cacao trees with new pest and disease resistant strains. This will be replacing older and disease ridden trees so when these new plants mature Ghana’s total yield will get quite the boost.
Psst… here’s another chocolate study, let’s just keep it quiet until it’s true for sure okay? Turns out two cups of cocoa help seniors brains! I’d believe it even if it was a lie. Good enough excuse for me!
That’s all for this week. Enjoy your Sunday and go drink that cocoa!
Being the son of a chocolatier Chris has always enjoyed talking about chocolate as much as he loves eating it. He’s an artist and designer as well as a co-founder of the Chocolate Codex.
