Week 27: June 27 – July 5
Happy Sunday everyone. Here’s what has been happening to chocolate this past week. Besides melting.
You’ve heard of the snort-able chocolate right? That’s right: you can chop chocolate into lines like Willy Wonka at Studio 54. Actually you’re supposed to use a device to make this happen. Hey if you live in Vancouver you can do it for something like $2 a “line”.
Japan is having to raise chocolate prices due to the lack of beans from Africa. There’s not much to report but your Lotte 50g is going up to ¥110. I hate adding coins!
Oh wait, prices for chocolate bars all over the world are going up in price! It’s been coming a long time. Buy smart!
Hmm, more bad news about sustainability. (Also in this piece by NPR.) Cacao farmers are being aged out and the interest in the crop by the young isn’t really there due to low wages (amongst other things).
Thankfully that’s all for this week and there’s a lot to chew on. I’m very keen to know about the farmers in particular.
