This Week in Chocolate: August 2–9

News of the World

Our weekly roundup of chocolate related news, politics and products. Catch up with what’s happening every Sunday.

Week 32: August 2 – 9

Good morning! Let’s start the week off by looking at the latest chocolate news.

Do you have a bit of a green thumb? Looking for a brown one? What I mean is that even if you can’t grow cacao where you live there are some alternatives. Not really edible alternatives but, hey, they can’t all be perfect.

Some people have a pretty dour outlook on the future of the planet. However don’t tell that to people who are in the tech industry. Chocolate satellite networks to the rescue!

Because the world needed another way to depict Marilyn Monroe: in Russia one artist has been using chocolate as his canvas. Looking to make a bit of scratch to the tune of $1000 apiece? Buy this book and get started! (I get commission!)

This article is all about the medicinal and ritual use of cacao in Mesoamerica. Really interesting stuff! The perfect place to pick up little tidbits of information you can drop at parties to sound, like, totally super smart about history and stuff.

Lastly Indian cacao is on the come up! I’m really looking forward to trying Indian cacao and seeing what happens with their industry. The more the merrier! If you have a line on some please let me know.

(I’ve been enjoying some very underground product myself these days… You know chocolate is my drug of choice. Besides drugs of course.)

See you next week!

Being the son of a chocolatier Chris has always enjoyed talking about chocolate as much as he loves eating it. He’s an artist and designer as well as a co-founder of the Chocolate Codex.
