This Week in Chocolate: Oct. 25 – Nov. 1

Our weekly roundup of chocolate related news, politics and products. See what’s happened every Sunday.

Happy Halloween!

You know in Vancouver we light off fireworks on October 31st. So basically the only things that get truly frightened on here on Halloween are dogs and cats. Here’s a sexy Willy Wonka costume for you. Because people are the worst.

Happy National Chocolate Day Again

October 28th was National Chocolate Day in the US (at least for October) so you might have been able to get some chocolate deals if you were in the States. This article, in celebration, is about a burger with Reese’s in it. Sounds gross, but I’m intrigued.

Chocolate Unhealthy Afterall

Researchers at Harvard testing flavanols are saying that the health benefits of chocolate have been overstated. This is due to the ratio of sugar and/or dairy to flavanols in the chocolate, it might not be weighed in your favor.

Confections of the near future

A lower calorie, healthier chocolate treat called chocolate leather has been invented and M&M’s are about to release 3 brand new flavors. Spoiler alert: pumpkin spice alert.

Kids Hate Fancy Chocolate

Bon Appétit sets up the cameras to see what happens when kids eat artisanal chocolate. Guess what? “It doesn’t really taste like awesome.”

Spotlight on Soma

Soma from Toronto is one of my favorite makers (as well as a lot of other people’s favorites) so it’s great to see this spotlight on them

That’s all the news for this week! See you next Sunday.

Being the son of a chocolatier Chris has always enjoyed talking about chocolate as much as he loves eating it. He’s an artist and designer as well as a co-founder of the Chocolate Codex.
