Our weekly roundup of chocolate related news, politics and products. See what’s happened every Sunday.
Locals nab Award
Congrats to Wild Sweets who were recently named one of the 24 Best Chocolatiers in the World. (Definitely one of my go-to makers when I need a gift on the fly. Saved my butt many times.)
Chocolate Milk: superfood
Just kidding. Wouldn’t that be nice though? What if we just paid some people to tell us it’s almost a superfood? Then it’s win-win!
Chocopalypse
That’s what some are calling the impending chocolate shortage. Due to the weather, rising demand, and a shrinking amount of farmers, chocolate is still going up in price and big corporations are putting lots of money into keeping production high. The PR hacks are all over this one.
We can put a man on the moon…
Hershey’s is crowd-sourcing to find an innovative person who can help them achieve the dream of shipping chocolate in warm climates. If you have an idea, one that’s backed up by data, you can get yourself $25K. Nerd! ;D
Madre Chocolate opens shop
If you’re in Honolulu Madre Chocolate is revamping their place into a shop! Lots of great chocolate coming from Hawaii so, you know, if you need another reason to go there. Something other than the whole paradise on Earth thing.
Felony Class Kindersurprise
Cocaine in Kindersurprises? Actually, this reporter is misunderstanding what the drugs were in. They were in the plastic inside containers and those were on the drug dealers. The cocaine wasn’t inside the actual chocolate egg part, they were in those handy little things. I mean horrible little things. Nothing handy about them whatsoever.
That’s all the news for this week! See you next Sunday.

Chris/Vancouver
Being the son of a chocolatier Chris has always enjoyed talking about chocolate as much as he loves eating it. He’s an artist and designer as well as a co-founder of the Chocolate Codex.
