Cloudforest is a line of origin bars from Cocanú, based in Portland, Oregon. Two ingredient bars are no longer a rarity, and you can usually find other Camino Verde origin bars these days too, but nothing looks quite like these. Really interesting packaging. It’s a cacao leaf. At least I assume so. I’m not exactly up on my botany. It’s a neat detail regardless.
The bar itself is actually one large square so it’s pretty practical looking. It smells amazing. And heavy too. Sweet and spicy like incense that includes ground ginger, dried cherries or kirsch, and cinnamon. I like all these things.
I think you should chew this bar. It has a cool and creamy melt but responds well to pressure – which is the most pretentious thing I’ve ever written. Reduce this bar into peanut butter with your molars and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how rich the bar tastes and feels. And it tastes very close to how it smells.
Let me back up a bit to the texture. Not everyone desires a smooth bar, but I happen to. The texture is really luscious feeling with just a touch of grit. Feels really nice for a two ingredient bar, though I do still feel the best way to get there is by force. It needs to get crushed and warmed.
It’s extremely eatable, this bar. It’s creamy, it’s mild and full of spices you know and love, it requires chewing and it’s 73%. It’s not complicated, but it hits a lot of pleasure points. And it comes with a prize so it’s one of those perfect gifts for encouraging amateur tasters like myself.
